BAHAWALPUR, Dec 5: Over two dozen students were injured, four of them seriously, when a bus of Islamia University overturned here on Wednesday.

Reports said the bus, packed to capacity, was on its way to varsity’s Baghdadul Jadid campus from the old one when the driver lost control over it.

The emergency service, 1122, shifted the injured to the Bahawalpur Victoria Hospital, where a large number of panicked parents and teachers reached immediately.

According to varsity’s Senior Medical Officer Dr Usman Cheema, most of the injured students were discharged after they were provided necessary medical assistance, while four of them were admitted to the hospital in serious condition.

It is learnt the university administration cancelled the Wednesday’s papers of the ongoing mid-term examinations.

DISMAYED: The local leadership of the PPP has expressed dismay over the decision of Chairperson Ms Benazir Butto to delegate powers to Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi for the allotment of party tickets for the upcoming election in the district, ignoring the `loyal’ workers.

In his appeal to the PPP chairperson, city president Shakir Mirza urged her to award tickets with the workers’ consent to deserving activists, who, he said would not later become turncoats. He was addressing a party meeting held here on Wedneday.
