KARACHI, Dec 5: Unknown gunmen killed two people in separate incidents on Wednesday in Korangi, in what the police suspect to be target killings due to personal enmities.

Zahid Ali, 34, was walking towards a shop in Zaman Town. He was a few yards from his home when two armed motorcyclists opened fire at him. According to an official at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), he received two bullets and died on the spot. The area police said that the victim had several disputes of a personal nature with family members and with business partners, which have led to his being killed in this manner. “Having considered at such elements, the area police have lodged an FIR and are investigating the case,” SP Landhi Town, Azad Khan, told Dawn.

Referring to the other incident, the police said that motorcyclist Khalid was intercepted by a couple of armed men, also riding a motorbike, who opened fire near Singer Chowrangi in the Korangi Industrial Area.

Khalid received three bullets in the face and chest, as a result of which he died instantly. However, the police have not yet unearthed any reasons behind the daylight targeted killing. “The area police have called the victim’s family, which is likely to visit the police station after the victim’s burial,” said the SP Landhi Town, Mr Khan. “Initial findings suggest that the killing was the result of some personal enmity.”
