LAHORE, Dec 4: Caretaker Chief Minister Justice Ejaz Nisar (retired) on Tuesday ordered strict enforcement of a ban on transfers and postings of government officials imposed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

He directed the chief secretary and the inspector general to ensure strict implementation of ban in accordance with the instructions of the ECP. He made it clear to them that any transfer on administrative grounds was also not permitted.

Meanwhile, the chief minister ordered that effective measures should be adopted to streamline the flow of traffic on the Lahore Canal Road so that people did not face any difficulty. Trees should also be planted along the canal as well as in other areas of the city for controlling environmental pollution.

He issued these instructions while presiding over a meeting held to discuss the Canal Road project. Chief Secretary Salman Siddique, P and D Chairman Suleman Ghani, Communication Secretary Ahsan Raja, Lahore Development Authority

Director-General Arif Khan and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.

The chief minister said better varieties of trees should be planted along the canal and nearby roads, and special attention be paid to repair and maintenance of the canal banks.

He said the new system of traffic management had played an effective role in streamlining traffic but there was a need to remove occasional traffic muddles in the city.
