KARACHI, Oct 22: Hundreds of students from 20 selected schools in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi-Islamabad and Peshawar have been invited to participate in an international art project for schools sponsored by Unilever and Lever Brothers, said a press release issued in Karachi on Monday.
Three entries, one each for age groups corresponding to primary, middle and high school levels, will be selected for inclusion in an international exhibition scheduled to be held at the Tate Modern gallery in London on Dec 6.
The students whose work is selected for the international exhibition will travel to London with a parent or teacher as guests of the sponsors. There they will join other finalists from around the world in a special celebration and see their work exhibited at one of the world’s leading galleries of contemporary art.
The theme selected for the project is ‘Environment’, and works submitted, which must be contemporary in style, can be two- dimensional, three-dimensional or moving images.
Prof Salima Hashmi, a well-known personality in art circles and former principal of the National College of Art has been appointed chief coordinator of the project in Pakistan.
An exhibition of students’ art works from all the four cities will be held in Karachi on Nov 5 and 6 and a panel of nationally known art experts will select the best entries for inclusion in the international exhibition.
