LAHORE, Dec 2: The Lahore Race Club (LRC) will shortly also be able to boast of a modern polo ground equipped with all kinds of facilities. Polo matches there will take place in a pleasant environment on a smooth strip of grass surrounded by groves of trees and rows of hedges and flower beds.

A vast space within the racetrack that is also close to an artificial lake in the club’s premises is to transformed for the purpose.

It has been learnt recently that a memorandum of understanding regarding the matter was agreed upon between the Lahore Race Club’s (LRC) Chairman Tariq Aziz and the president of the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) Abdul Qadir Khan Mamdot. Also present on the occasion was ex-president LPC, Malik Hamid Ai Noon.

Under the agreement the two clubs have decided to work hand in hand for the promotion of the game of polo as well as the breeding and training of horses and ponies while cooperating in matters as may be conducive or necessary to the fulfilment of the objectives enshrined in the Memorandum of the Article of Association of the LRC.

The polo club will be helping the LRC which already has the most modern floodlighting arrangement for the holding of sporting activities at night, hold more cup events.

It matters mentioning here that the LRC recently rejected a fabulous monetary offer for the construction of a modern track within its premises for motor cycle and car racing contests for professional and amateur motor cycle riders and car drivers.

A reputed foreign firm had expressed its willingness to finance the project while offering a handsome cash return for it, which had to be turned down by the club as the project clashed with the set conditions in the memorandum.

Founded during colonial rule by four horse lovers, Dr G.K. Walker, Dr W. Taylor, T.R. Chambers and E.A. Scott, the LRC is registered under the private companies act.

All club members then were forbidden to involve themselves in anything against its interest or that of breeding of horses and ponies and equine sports.

Although the article of association has since been amended twice, its basic spirit, that its aim is to promote by every means the breeding and training of horses and ponies and cooperate with matters as may be conducive or necessary to the proper fulfilment of the defined objectives, remains unchanged.
