KARACHI, Dec 2: Lyari police arrested two gangsters on Sunday in a renewed crackdown against street crime. Police claimed that the suspects belonged to the notorious Rahman Dakait gang.

On a tip-off police raided a hideout in Chawkiwara and arrested Kamran alias Kami and Mohammad Jameel, who were wanted in several cases of illegal arms trade, extortion and drugs.

Lyari Town SP Fayyaz Khan said cases had been registered against the arrested culprits at Chawkiwara police station. “We expect some leads during further investigations from the culprits that may lead to some more raids and arrests,” he added.

Police arrested some eight alleged gangsters in two days following a firing incident last week when a woman was killed after her husband denied giving extortion money to gangsters. The incident sounded alarm bells among the police high-ups, who claimed that they had tightened security and boosted action against the gangsters.

The superintendent police said, “The situation is very complex but we hope to reach some satisfactory level within a few days.”
