LAHORE, Nov 26: A suspect with a hand-grenade was caught by the police squad of a federal minister outside a food restaurant on MM Alam Road and handed over to the Ghalib Market police.

Reports said the man apparently wanted to hit caretaker federal minister Tariq Hameed, who was having a dinner at the time of the incident, but the police claimed that they detained the suspect at a picket near the restaurant.

According to details, a suspect was standing outside the restaurant when the police squad questioned him about his presence. Suddenly the man started running and the police guard chased him and caught him near the Mini Market.

When contacted, Capital City Police Officer Malik Muhammad Iqbal claimed that officials of Ghalib Market at a picket tried to check a suspect who was about to board an auto-rickshaw but he started running. The police chased him and held him with a hand-grenade.

According to initial interrogation, the suspect seemed to be a deranged man, the CCPO said. He said the police were trying to find out his name during interrogation. He rejected the impression that the suspect could be a suicide bomber. Further investigation is in progress. —Staff Reporter
