China for ‘stability’

Published November 23, 2007

ISLAMABAD, Nov 22: Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a message of support on Thursday to Pervez Musharraf, saying it was important to maintain “social stability” in the country.

In a message read out on state television by Musharraf’s spokesman, Hu said Pakistan’s stability was vital to regional peace and security.

“I completely understand the efforts made by Your Excellency President Musharraf for keeping social stability in Pakistan,” spokesman Rashid Qureshi quoted Hu as saying in the letter.

“I firmly believe that under the leadership of Your Excellency, Pakistan is able to properly handle the internal and external challenges, realise a smooth transition and continue to maintain stability and development.”—AFP
