ISLAMABAD, Nov 22: Authorities on Thursday again restricted former Supreme Court judge Wajihuddin Ahmed from proceeding to the residence of deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

Lawyers staged a protest demonstration in the capital to denounce the government action.

Earlier, Justice Wajih, carrying a bunch of flowers, led a rally of lawyers and civil society representatives towards Mr Chaudhy’s house but he was stopped by police at the Super Market, only a kilometre away from the Judges Colony.

When Mr Wajih was not allowed to proceed, he and other lawyers gave the flowers to the policemen and requested them to hand it over to Mr Chaudhry.

The participants did not resist the police but they staged a demonstration at Super Market.

Addressing the rally, Mr Wajihuddin said he had lodged his protest by sending flowers to the deposed chief justice.

He said the lawyers, journalists and people from the civil society would continue their struggle for the freedom of judiciary and media.

Mr Wajih said he would go to the Judges Colony everyday and place flowers at police barriers in protest.

He said that on the one hand the government was claiming that all deposed judges, including Justice Chaudhry were free to move around while on the other hand no judge was being allowed to go outside their house.

The demonstrators were carrying placards and banners and chanted anti-Musharraf slogans.

They demanded the release of all lawyers and journalists arrested since the imposition of state of emergency in the country.
