“At the moment he is definitely out of the first Test. As a precaution, the team management has decided to send Umar for more check-ups and tests to ascertain the exact status of his problems,” Ahsan said.

Umar, a vital cog in the Pakistan bowling line-up, remained on the sidelines in

the past, more notably three years ago, when a stress frac-ture forced him out for 18 months shortly after bowling Pakistan to a big victory in the Lahore Test of the ground-breaking series against India in 2004.
