KARACHI, Nov 21: A five-member bench of the Sindh High Court on Wednesday adjourned a petition moved by Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto for membership of the National Assembly to a date in office owing to the absence of her counsel.

Deputy Attorney-General Rizwan Ahmed Siddiqui contended that the petition be disposed of as infructuous as the National Assembly had since been dissolved on the completion of its five-year term. There was nobody to rebut the contention and the hearing was put off to a date in office.

The bench, headed by Chief Justice Mohammad Afzal Soomro and comprised of Justices Munib Ahmed Khan, Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui, Rana M. Shamim and Abdur Rehman Farooq Pirzada, also adjourned the hearing of a contempt petition against former chief minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim to Nov 23.
