GUJRANWALA, March 27: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) claimed to have achieved over 100 per cent recovery target besides reducing line losses during the last eight months.
Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, Gepco chief executive Brig Mushtaq Ahmad Chaudhry said the Gepco had recovered Rs11,556 million as against the target of Rs11,422 million, showing an increase of Rs134 million.
Gepco detection and surveillance teams detected 16,850 power thefts and recovered detection bills of Rs89.5 million from them. He said they had also lodged 705 FIRs against power thieves during the period.
He said the Gepco had also disposed of 18,425 complaints and provided 43,292 new power connections besides replacing 19,324 defective meters. With new connections, the Gepco consumers had touched the figures of 1.75 million, he said.
At least 121 grade one to 16 employees, including four SDOs, were dismissed from service while 40 employees were demoted on the charge of inefficiency, he added.
DELIMITATION: The delimitation of national and provincial assemblies’ seats was completed in the district with the increase of two NA and four PA seats on Wednesday.
According to a report, the Gujranwala’s NA seats has been raised from five to seven and PA seats from 11 to 14 on equal population basis of constituencies.
Objections against the delimitation and boundaries of constituencies can be submitted to the election commission till April 10.
34 ARRESTED: At least 34 people, including a former councillor and a factory owner, were arrested on Wednesday for creating law and order situation at Kamoke.
The factory owner had purchased a piece of land on the GT Road and wanted to build a door adjacent to a filling station owned by former councillor Ahmad Abdullah. The factory owner lost his temper and attacked Abdullah with clubs and kicks for forbidding him to build the door. Later, the supporters of both the men came there and started thrashing each other. Meanwhile, Saddar police rushed to the spot and arrested all of them.
A case has been registered against them.
KIDNAPPED: An eyewitness was kidnapped by his rivals over litigation issue from the district courts here on Wednesday.
Miraj Din of Aroop village was the eyewitness in a criminal case against outlaws, including Muhammad Yousaf, Muhammad Shafi and Ghulam Rasul.
Aroop police have registered a case and are investigating.
ASI BOOKED: A sacked ASI was booked on the charge of embezzlement and involving a citizen in a fake illicit arms case here on Wednesday.
Zafar Iqbal had conducted a raided on the house of Khalid Nazim in Model Town and took away Rs40,000 in cash, 20 dollars and a licensed arm. Later, Iqbal involved him in the fake case. An inquiry later found the ASI guilty of charge.
