LAHORE, Nov 13: The Lahore Bar Association (LBA) in its general house meeting at Aiwan-i-Adl on Tuesday vowed to continue what they called ‘movement for the restoration of the Constitution and independence of the judiciary’ while demanding removal of all judges who have taken oath under the Provisional Constitution Order.
LBA Secretary Khawar Bashir presided over the meeting in the absence of other office-bearers, including president Syed Muhammad Shah, who had been jailed in the wake of lawyers’ protest on Nov 5.
The hall, that had been plunged into darkness owing to a power outage before the start of the meeting, was lit with beams of sunlight pouring in through windowpanes only, reverberated with slogans: ‘Go Musharraf go’ and ‘Chief Teray Jan Nisar, Baishumar Baishumar’.
The house unanimously adopted a resolution condemning swearing-in of ‘Musharraf’s cronies’ as judges and gagging the press and media. The resolution sought restoration of the Constitution and the judges who did not take oath under the PCO.
“We will not flinch from carrying our movement forward. We will take out rallies and march to the Punjab Assembly building besides staging sit-ins,” it said.
