MUZAFFARABAD, Nov 11: A leading consultancy firm has submitted its report on government buildings which had survived the Oct 2005 earthquake, declaring them fit for retrofitting, Dawn learnt here on Sunday.

The National Engineering Services of Pakistan (Nespak) had been asked to evaluate standing government buildings, particularly those housing the New Civil Secretariat, Legislative Assembly and superior judiciary, to enable the government to take any decision about their fate.

“The report has been submitted with government. It says that every government building is safe and should be retrofitted,” an official source told Dawn.

Even the building of the Supreme Court which otherwise appeared fragile due to substandard construction had also been declared fit for repair, the source added.
