HYDERABAD, Nov 9: Members of Hindu community celebrated Diwali (Dipawali) on Friday. Families began their day by offering pooja, exchanging sweets and wearing new clothes.

Celebrations had in fact begun on Thursday night when people started purchasing sweets.

Shops in Hyderabad, Dadu, Umerkot, Jamshoro, Mirpurkhas, Thatta and Badin remained opened till late night.

Dewali is a festival of lights. On the day of Diwali all the Hindus families lit earthen lamps in their homes while elderly and children alike explode fire crackers as a mark of jubilation.

Lawyers postponed a Diwali programme which was scheduled for Thursday due to the arrival of sacked high court judge Zafar Ahmed Sherwani who was invited for tea.
