HYDERABAD, Nov 8: District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil expressing concern over construction of housing schemes on embankments of River Indus and irrigation land directed the Irrigation and Revenue departments, and the HDA to evolve a strategy for coming 100 years to bring an end to such constructions in view of flood threats.

He presided over the meeting of Irrigation, Revenue departments and the HDA officials at his Secretariat on Wednesday.

Human life was most importance which should be protected at all costs, said Nazim and added: Many housing schemes and settlements are raised on protective embankments of River Indus and canals. He said these settlements had not only damaged embankments but also pose threat to human lives in case of floods.

He directed the concerned officials to conduct a joint survey and identify those settlements which were endangering the embankments of River Indus and canals.

The DCO Hyderabad Aftab Ahmed Khatri, Director Irrigation Left Bank Mitha Khan, EDO Revenue Barkaat Rizvi, Director General HDA Altaf Hussain Memon, Director Building Control Nadeem Rizwan and other officers attended the meeting.

WATER SUPPLY: District Nazim Hyderabad Kanwar Naveed Jamil inaugurated 20-inch diameter water pipeline and installation of pumping machinery from Paretabad Water Works to Fateh Chowk.

He said that he would remove the word Backward from the dictionary of Hyderabad district. He said the neglected areas of American Quarters, Hali Road, Gujrati Para, Phulelli and Paretabad were being provided the same facilities as in developed areas.
