KARACHI, Nov 7: Over 50,000 kilograms of charas and 356kg heroin besides other drugs and illicit liquor worth Rs500 million were burnt near Super Highway on Tuesday in the presence of Judicial Magistrate-VI, Malir, and excise and taxation minister and some foreign dignitaries.

The Consul-General of Saudi Arabia, Abdul Razaq Mohammed Al-Zahrani, Vice-Consul Fahad Mohammed Al-Asimi and Iranian Consulate representatives were especially invited on the occasion.

The narcotics burnt included 50,134kg charas, 356kg heroin, 100-litre raw liquor, 1,626 bottles of foreign liquor, 1,799 bottles of local made liquor, 1,100-gram cocaine, 37,400 Pethadin injections, 4,810 Mandrix tablets and 52-gallon spirit.

Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani said the narcotics burnt were part of the cases which had been decided by courts. He called for joint efforts to fight the menace of narcotics.

Abdul Razaq Mohammed Al-Zahrani said narcotics ruined character, health, money as well as religious and moral values of drug users. All of us should unite to fight against this menace. He said Pakistan efforts against narcotics were looked at with great admiration in Muslim world.

Excise and Taxation Secretary Mohammed Naseer Jamali, Director-General Mohammed Asif Marghoub Siddiqi, Lt-Col Abrar of Pakistan Rangers, excise officials of South, West, East and Malir zones, besides representatives of electronic and print media.—APP
