KARACHI, Nov 5: A meeting of the Karachi City Cricket Association’s (KCCA) executive council was held under its President Dr Mohammad Ali Shah on Sunday, expressing satisfaction over getting rid of ad hocism in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after eight years.

The meeting was largely attended by KCCA vice-presidents Khalil Ahmed Nainitalwala, Ajmal Ansari, Mehtab Ahmed, Mian Azmat Hussain besides other members of the executive council.

The council also felicitated Dr. Nasim Ashraf on his recent nomination as the PCB chief for three years by President Gen Pervez Musharraf, the board’s patron-in-chief.

The KCCA extended its full support and cooperation to the PCB chairman for his successful tenure as constitutional chairman of the PCB.

However, the council expressed its grave reservations over various clauses of the newly implemented PCB constitution and urged the chairman to defer its implementation and prevent any meeting of the PCB Governing Board until the removal of various ambiguities and anomalies.

The council requested Dr Nasim for an urgent meeting with the KCCA representatives to convey its reservations.

The council meeting also expressed its grave concern over omitting the permanent seats of Karachi and Lahore — the premier cricket nurseries of Pakistan cricket — on the PCB governing board. Both the cities used to enjoy permanent seats in the PCB council.

The council urged President Musharraf to restore permanent seats for Karachi and Lahore and allow at least one representative from each of the four provinces with a special seat to the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on the board’s governing board.

The meeting also appealed to the President Musharraf to restore the democratic shape of the PCB. Presently, in the house of 15 members only six members are elected while majority (nine) are nominated. —APP
