Changez qualifies for next round

KARACHI, Nov 4: In what turned out to be an agonizing match, unseeded Changez Hassan Khan overcame Asim Khan in three sets to move into the next round of the men’s singles of the 17th Talent Hunt Sindh Ranking tennis championship at the CDGK Sports Complex on Saturday.

After conceding the opener 6-7, Changez fought back to claim the next two sets 7-5, 6-1 which put him in the second round.

Adnan Yousuf was also stretched to full distance by Waqas Abid on way to registering 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 victory.

First round: Changez Hassan Khan bt Asim Khan 6-7, 7-5, 6-1; Abdul Saeed bt Talha Saeed 6-4, 6-4; Adnan Yousuf bt Waqas Abid 6-3, 5-7, 7-5; M. Naseem bt Salmnan Ahmed 6-4, 6-0; Bilal Soomro w/o Zubair Dodi; Ali Zubair bt Hasan Saqib 6-1, 6-2.

Boys U-15 singles:

First round: Shayan Nadeem bt Salman Muneer 6-2, 6-0.

Second round: Abdul Rehman bt Omer Osman 6-0, 6-2; Mustafa Zaidi bt Mustafa Tariq 6-3, 6-0; Nameer Shamsi bt Rehmat Ali Ahsan 6-2, 6-1.

Boys/girls U-9 singles (round robin): M. Raza Sawani bt Omair Tariq 7-5; Maheen Dada bt Omair Tariq 6-1.

Monday’s fixtures:

Men’s singles (second round) 9.00am; juniors U-17 singles (second round) 2.00pm; ladies singles (first round) 3.00pm; boys U-15 doubles (first round) 3.30pm.
