DUBAI, March 23: Street Cry, ridden by Jerry Bailey, won the group one Dubai World Cup in dazzling style on Saturday.

With total prize money of US$6 million, the event is the world’s richest race.

Bailey struck the lead on the inside with 500 metres to go and held on easily from outsider Sei Mi.

Third place went to hot favourite Sakhee, ridden by Frankie Dettori.

Bailey has now ridden the winner of the World Cup four times in seven races since the event’s inauguration in 1996.

London betting had Street Cry at 9-2 with Sei Mi at 66-1 and Sakhee at 2-5.

The winner and third are both trained by Saeed bin Suroor in Dubai.—Reuters
