KARACHI, Oct 30: The Jamat-i-Islami is set to assess its performance over the past 30 years and review its strategies and policies towards various issues at a three-day meeting commencing on Nov 2 at Shamki Bhatian, near Lahore.

The outgoing Amir of the party’s Karachi chapter, Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, briefing newsmen about the extraordinary meeting of JI leaders and activists, said that comments and proposals to streamline the party’s policies and strategies would be welcomed at the meeting and discussion would be held keeping in view the ground reality and the situation prevailing in the country with reference to the JI’s fundamental agenda of the enforcement of Islamic order.

“One may call it a consultative meeting where party members will be taken into confidence by the leadership vis-a-vis the decisions taken and policies pursued over the past three decades,” he said.

Highlighting the significance of the extraordinary meeting, he said such a meeting was held only in 1974 in the backdrop of the East Pakistan debacle.

Dr Siddiqui said that the situation prevailing in the country was precarious and the JI leadership had to take all followers into confidence to remove any ambiguity or confusion regarding the party’s policies, achievements and strategies.

Political analysts, referring to the JI high command’s recent statement, believe that the moot is aimed at chalking out a strategy to mobilise masses for the launching of a decisive struggle against the present rulers.
