Protesters block rail traffic

FAISALABAD, Oct 27: Scores of people staged a protest demonstration and blocked rail traffic against cancellation of two stopovers at Chak Jhumra on Thursday.

They also protested against the killings of four people, including two students, in an accident on Oct 25 in which an overloaded bus overturned.

Reports said people from different villages of Chak Jhumra converged on roads and chanted slogans against the government and railway department officials for cancelling

Rachna Express stopovers at Chak Jhumra and Sahianwala.

The protesters said they were facing a great deal of inconvenience after the railways’ decision. They alleged that the railways cancelled the stopovers on the pressure of influential transporters. They stopped three trains for an hour.

After receipt of information, district nazim Rana Zahid Touseef and Lyallpur town police officer Mir Waise rushed to the spot and assured the protesters of their full cooperation.
