ISLAMABAD, Oct 26: The Election Commission on Friday restored the membership of five legislators after they submitted their annual statements of assets and liabilities.

Election Commission secretary Kunwar Dilshad told Dawn that the membership of MNA Farzin Ahmed Sarfaraz and four members of the Punjab assembly had been restored.

Ms Farzin was elected on a reserved seat for women.

The Punjab assembly members are: Akmal Saif (PP-103 Gujranwala), Faiza Ahmed (reserved seat for women), Chaudhry Mohammad Shabbir (PP-96 Gujranwala) and Rai Ahsan Raza (PP-62 Faisalabad).

Mr Dilshad said that about 99 per cent of parliamentarians and MPAs had already filed their statements of assets and liabilities.

The secretary said the voters’ list published on Friday contained 80 million eligible voters.

The computerised voters’ list previously prepared by the Election Commission contained only 52 million voters.

Political parties and civil society organisations had expressed serious reservations about disenfranchisement of about 20 million voters whose names were there in the list prepared in 2002.
