KARAK, Oct 24: The group in the Karak district council that supports the district nazim has tabled a no-confidence motion against its convener and has fixed Thursday for voting on the issue.

The district convener has termed the move illegal, saying the meeting to discuss the move cannot be convened without his consent and approval.

A district council meeting was held here on Wednesday in the Town Hall with the acting convener and nazim of the Ghundi Mirkhankhel union council, Mufti Mohammad Hayat, in the chair.

Nazim of Mithakhel union council Malik Rehman along with two women councillors Arfa Saeeda and Gul Bibi stood on a point of order and presented the no-trust resolution against convener Jan Alam which was endorsed by the 25 members of the council. Earlier too, Arfa Saeeda and Gul Bibi had requisitioned a district council meeting for tabling the no-confidence resolution but the district convener had turned downed the requisition on the ground of the deteriorating law and order situation in the district.

The Wednesday meeting was convened on the directives of district Nazim Rehmat Salam. At the meeting, the acting convener decided that the resolution would be discussed on Thursday.

Jan Alam has, in the meanwhile, claimed that he still enjoys the confidence of a majority of councillors. He said he would soon bring a no-trust movement against the district nazim.
