KARACHI, Oct 24: Two men were killed and another was seriously injured when a tripod mounted with a heavy drilling machine fell on their truck on Rashid Minhas Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Police and witnesses said the truck was coming from Nipa towards Sharea Faisal when it came under the heavy tripod, which was placed at the site of under-construction Jauhar More flyover.

Truck driver Raees and Mir Hussain who was sitting next to him died on the spot while Muhammad Fazil was shifted to Jinnah hospital in a critical condition. All the victims were cattle traders and were returning from a business trip.

They were residents of Deh Malir. The accident that also resulted in a gridlock on the road for an hour at least puts a serious question mark over the safety steps being adopted at the site of such projects.

It is worth noting that both sides of Rashid Minhas Road leading from Askari roundabout to Jauhar More have been dug up for the construction of two flyovers as a part of signal-free Corridor-II.

“There are a few options available to avoid such incidents but most of them are not practical,” said EDO (works and services) Nisar Ahmed Sairo.
