LAHORE, Oct 22: A woman allegedly burnt herself to death over a domestic issue in Kahna police precincts on Monday. Police said Shaheen, 25, was living with her husband Abdul Manan and a stepson in a rented house in Rehmat Park. She used to quarrel with her husband because she did not want her stepson to stay with them.
On Monday, she again had an argument with her husband, locked herself in the room, sprayed kerosene oil on her and set her ablaze.
Listening her screams, her neighbours extinguished the fire and took her to Lahore General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
INJURED BOY DIES: A minor boy, who sustained burn injuries in a cylinder blast in Sabzazar a few days ago, succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
Police said Muhammad Qasim, 12, of Rasheedpura went with his father Akbar Khan to buy a gas cylinder. As they reached their home, the cylinder exploded and both father and son were injured. They were taken to Lahore General Hospital where Khan succumbed to his injuries two days after the incident and Qasim died on Monday.
ACCIDENTS: A three-year-old girl, Fatima, was knocked down by a speeding car when she was playing outside her Dayal village residence in Berki area. She died on the spot.
Locals nabbed the car driver, Papi, and handed him over to police.
Similarly, a 13-year-old girl, Munaza, was killed in a hit-and-run accident at Chungi Amar Sidhu in Factory Area.
She succumbed to her injuries while being taken to the hospital.
An unidentified 55-year-old man was crushed to death by a speeding truck on Multan Road in Manga Mandi police precincts. Police said the man was crossing the road when the incident took place. The truck driver fled.
BODY FOUND: Nishtar Colony police recovered the body of an unidentified 25-year-old man from Rohi drain near Bank Stop on Monday. According to the police, the investigators have found no marks on the body.
GANG SMASHED: The Gulberg police claimed on Monday to have arrested two members of a gang and recovered stolen cars and drugs from their possession.
A team, constituted by the Model Town division SP, nabbed Arshad alias Commando and Zulfikar Bhutto when they were escaping after lifting a car.
The police also seized three cars, 1kg charas and illegal weapons from their possession.
The accused used to take vehicles to tribal areas and sell their spare parts. They would purchase heroin and charas from the tribal areas and provide the same to prisoners at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail and Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
The accused had faced imprisonment in the past and had contacts with prisoners. They had confessed to nine more incidents of car lifting from Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Meanwhile, Mughalpura investigation police claimed to have arrested four members of a gang and seized looted property as well as illegal weapons from them.
The accused have confessed to 16 incidents of street crime.
A team, constituted under the direction of DIG (investigation) Tassaduq Husain, collected particulars of Javeed alias Haji gang and arrested Javeed alias Haji, Afzal alias Faisal, Kashif alias Kashi and Farooq.
The police recovered a stolen motorcycle, gold ornaments worth Rs200,000, four pistols and bullets from their possession.
OPEN COURT: The Punjab IG will hold an open court on Wednesday (tomorrow) at the Central Police Office to listen complaints against police.
The citizens have been asked to submit their applications by 9:30am on the same day.
