KARACHI: Two men jailed

KARACHI, March 22: An additional district and sessions judge, East, Syed Kauser Ali Shah, sentenced on Friday two men to six years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs6,000 each for resorting to violence and shootout with police.

Mumtaz Ali and Wajid were prosecuted for creating disturbances and attempting to kill policemen during a shootout on May 16, 1998 in the limits of Ferozabad police.

The convicts will have to undergo an additional 15 years’ RI if they fail to pay the fine.

ACQUITTED: An additional district and sessions judge, Central, Ahmed Nawaz Shaikh, acquitted three men prosecuted for kidnapping a man for ransom.

Khalil Ahmed, Ataullah and Syed Altaf were charged with kidnapping Mohammed Ameen for ransom in 1998 in Buffer Zone.

The judge acquitted the three men of all charges as the prosecution could not prove its case against them.
