HYDERABAD, Oct 19: Strict security measures have been taken in nine districts of Hyderabad police sub region, on Friday following two blasts in Benazir’s procession in Karachi, on Thursday. The security measures are taken on directives of Provincial Police Officer (PPO) Sindh.

Patrolling of police has been intensified in Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta, Dadu, Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Tando Mohammad Khan and Matiari. Police are also checking entry and exit points to keep an eye on movement of suspects. People are being subjected to body search at different locations, especially bike riders.

Documents of vehicles are being required by police as youths normally are not in the habit of carrying their motorcycle documents. There is movement of police along the Super Highway and the National Highway at points touching Hyderabad, Thatta, Jamshoro and Dadu.

A police spokesman said policemen in civvies have also been deployed outside the outlets of international chain of foods, Imam Bargahs, Masajid and other places. Shopping centres and crowded places are also under surveillance of police.

The Supervising Police Officers (SPOs) have been directed to visit their areas instead of sitting in police stations and ensure checking of vehicles’ documents and identification of suspected persons. The DPOs of these districts visited their areas to comply with directives of high-ups.

Our Mirpurkhas correspondent adds: Security has been beefed up in Mirpurkhas sub-region of police following bomb blasts in procession of Ms Benazir Bhutto in Karachi. Security arrangements are made in Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparkar and Sanghar as patrolling is intensified. Snap checking is also being carried out. Police were deployed on main roads, sensitive buildings, Imam Bargahs, Masajid, Chowks, exit and entry points of cities and towns.
