KARACHI, Oct 21: The Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) were handed over six grounds Saturday after an agreement was signed between the organization and the city government, officials said.

Under the agreement, six grounds — ‘B’ Area Liaquatabad, Block 13 Federal `B’ Area, Sector 5-F North Karachi, Sector 37-D, Landhi Gymkhana ground, Malir Extension ground and Asifabad Sports Complex — came under the jurisdiction of the KCCA.

The basic infrastructure and development work on stadia will now be done by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) with improvement at each centre to cost Rs2.7million.

However, the maintenance work would be done by the KCCA officials.

According to a programme, the PCB would prepare turf pitches, players pavilion, grassy outfield, sight screens besides providing a roller and grass cutting machine.

Development work and creating more playing facilities has been given top priority by the present PCB hierarchy which has resulted in creation of grounds at least more than three times than they were a couple of years.

The PCB’s keenness on development, particularly in Karachi, can be judged from the fact that the projects have not been shelved despite huge financial losses in the aftermath of cancellation of three events this year.
