LAHORE, Oct 18: Over 200 protestors threw traffic out of gear on Bund Road for some two hours on Thursday afternoon in protest against the killing of a minor girl in a road accident.

The enraged crowd also shouted slogans and burnt tyres.

Badami Bagh police said seven-year-old Zainab of Kokar Pind was crossing the road when she was hit by a speeding truck. She died on the spot.

Driver Aftab Alam was apprehended while a case was registered against him on the report of Tariq, father of the deceased girl.

BEATEN TO DEATH: A twenty-five-year-old factory worker was beaten to death allegedly by his colleague and accomplices over a minor issue on Wednesday night.

Nasir Iqbal of Liaquatabad had exchanged heated arguments with Tanvir while at work on Wednesday afternoon, the victim’s brother Zahid told Dawn at the city morgue.

He alleged that Tanvir and his four accomplices dragged his brother out of the factory, locked the doors from outside and beat him to death.

A Liaquatabad police officer said accused Tanvir was arrested and a case was registered against him.

MAN DIES: A man died after consuming liquor excessively in Chuhng here on Thursday.

Police said Imran, 26, of Shalimar, dealt in furniture, took substandard liquor along with his two friends on Wednesday night at a hotel in Chuhng. The hotel manager found him dead while his friends escaped.

Quoting a doctor, the police said he died of taking liquor excessively.

The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
