QUETTA, Oct 16: Seven tribesmen were killed and many others injured in a gunbattle between two rival Baloch tribes in Dashat Goran area of the Kalat district.

“Seven tribesmen from both sides were killed in the armed clash,” police sources said, adding that the incident took place on Eid day and both sides used heavy weapons during the clash.

The sources said that groups of Mengal and Zehri tribes had a dispute over a piece of land and it had claimed many lives in the past.

On Sunday, the armed tribesmen took up positions against each other in the Dashat Goran area and opened fire after Eid prayers.

They also fired rockets on each other and used machine-guns, resulting in the death of seven people and injuries to 11 others.

Heavy firing continued for several hours, causing panic in the area.

However, with efforts of law-enforcement agencies and local administration, both warring sides agreed for cease fire and vacated their positions.

The local administration has deployed a heavy contingent of police and other law-enforcement agencies to avert further clashes.

Police have registered cases against both the groups after taking some people from both sides into custody for investigation.
