BERLIN, Oct 13: American Kate Ziegler broke two freestyle short-course world records in a single race on Friday at a meet in Essen setting new marks over 800 and 1,500-metres.

Ziegler set a world record in the 800 with a time of eight minutes 9.68 seconds, beating the mark of 8:11.25 held by France’s Laure Manaudou, en route to a record in the 1,500 of 15:32.90, below Manaudou’s 15:42.39.

The records, announced on the website of the SG Essen swimming club which organised the meet, eclipsed Manaudou’s 800 mark recorded on Dec 9 2005 in Italy and 1,500 record set on Nov 20, 2004 in France.
