PESHAWAR, Oct 12: The Peshawar High Court on Friday granted bail to an alleged drug trafficker suffering from hepatitis C.

A single-judge bench comprising Justice Dost Mohammad Khan observed that hepatitis was a dangerous disease which might be transmitted to other prisoners. He said that hepatitis patients were a threat to other prisoners due to lack of precautionary measures in the prison.

The prisoners used the same bathrooms and syringes etc were used over and over again for injecting them.

The court ordered that the accused-applicant, Farman Ali, be released after furnishing two sureties of Rs100,000 each.

The court further ordered that the ministry of interior should place his name on the Exit Control List (ECL) and he should hand over his passport to the Anti-Narcotics Force.

The chairman of the Voice of Prisoners, Noor Alam Khan, appeared on behalf of the applicant and stated that he was arrested at the Peshawar International Airport on charges of carrying 1.5kg of heroin.
