VEHARI, Oct 11: About 72 prisoners were released from the district jail here on Thursday.

Jail deputy superintendent Malik Tufail said their release orders were issued by additional district and sessions judge Rao Saleem Akhtar during his visit to the jail.

He said some 26 prisoners involved in petty offences would be released on Friday.

Meanwhile, a number of people visited the jail to give Eid gifts to their relatives and friends.

Members of non-governmental organisations and welfare associations also distributed gifts among prisoners.
