FAISALABAD, Oct 11: An army captain was shot dead and his father and brother injured by armed intruders in the early hours of Thursday.

Reports said four armed men barged into the house of Tufail Sindhu at Chaudhry Park (Batala Colony police precinct) and tried to hold up the owner who raised an alarm.

Tufail’s sons Captain Mukaram Ali Sindhu and Umar Sindhu rushed to rescue their father and the armed men resorted to firing.

Mukaram and his father suffered injuries and were later taken to hospital where the former breathed his last. Umar also suffered minor hurts and was admitted to the Allied Hospital.

Mukaram was posted in Multan and was on leave for celebrating Eid with his family.

DIG (Operations) Muhammad Aslam Tareen, Iqbal Town SP Ziaullah Niazi and other officials concerned reached the spot and gleaned information about the incident. The DIG said it was not clear whether it was a dacoity incident or an outcome of an enmity. However, he said, the police had started investigation.

The family denied having enmity with anyone and said the gangsters were dacoits.
