GILGIT, Oct 10: The deputy director of agriculture has said that the agriculture is the backbone of the country’s economy and for rapid progress it needs greater attention.

Talking to APP here on Wednesday, he said the government had allocated Rs19 million for fruit development in Astore district. He said the money would be spent on setting up of fruit nurseries and training of farmers.

He said the government had taken measures to promote and boost fruit production in the district which, he said, would yield better results and economic growth would register an increase in the days to come.

He asked the growers and farmers to produce quality fruit in line with the global demand.—APP
