ISLAMABAD, Oct 9: Relatives of the missing persons threatened to commit self-immolation in front of the Supreme Court if their dear ones were not retrieved by the secret agencies.

During a protest demonstration before the Parliament House here on Tuesday, they also appealed to the Chief Justice to take stern action against those involved in the abduction of what they called innocent people.

Chief Coordinator of Defence of Human Rights Khalid Khawaja and Chairperson Amina Masood led the protectors who were holding placards and banners with an appeal, inscribed on them, to the Chief Justice to recover their family members before Eid. The protectors also demanded to abolish secret detention centres in the country.

On the occasion, Khalid Khawaja appealed to the Chief Justice to suspend IGs of concerned departments, if they failed to bring the missing persons. Most of the people have been picked up by authorities from different police stations, he said

“People are in search of justice for the last four years, but to no avail,” he added.

Condemning the promulgation of National Reconciliation Ordinance, he said the law would give indemnity to the politicians. The government should release the innocent people who are languishing in jails after 9/11, he added. —Online
