BADIN, Oct 7: The sale of spurious pesticides in Badin district is on the rise due to the apathy of the agriculture department and is causing severe losses to growers.

The growers were facing huge losses due to the attack of the mealybug on different crops including cotton and vegetables.

The growers said that majority of the pesticides available in local market were adulterated and hence not effective against the milli bug and other crop diseases.

The sale of fake pesticides has been rising with each passing day across the district but authorities concerned have yet to take any action. The growers have demanded of the government to take strict action against the elements behind the sale of fake pesticides.

AMENITIES: The member of a World Bank team visiting Badin district, Hameeda Saood Shah, said that hundreds of thousands of people living in the Badin coastal areas were deprived of basic necessities like potable water, education and health.

This she said while addressing a socioeconomic study meeting ‘Tidal Link Lake System’ here on Sunday.

She said that according to the team’s survey, people belonging to these areas were living a very low standard of life as they are deprived of sanitation, education, health and roads. She said that there were no proper medical facilities, like maternity in this coastal strip.

On this occasion, Badin district naib nazim Azizullah Dero and others said that civic conditions would be worsened if the government failed to pay proper attention to the problems of these areas, especially those related to potable water, agriculture and fishing.—PPI
