HYDERABAD, Oct 4: The district government with the assistance of National Commission for Human Development (NICHD) and participation of community stakeholders plans to implement education plan for 100 per cent enrolment and increase in literacy rate, said DCO Aftab Ahmed Khatri.

He was speaking at a meeting to review the progress of the project, on Wednesday.

The project was part of the District Education Plan started by Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil who himself was keen on making Hyderabad a model district in every aspect, including high educational standards, he said and added: “Under the project adult literacy programme was launched 18 months back with the establishment of 600 adult literacy centres throughout the district, while plan to improve primary education on August 4, 2007.”

In addition to engaging community, teachers will be responsible for increasing enrolment at their schools he said adding recording and reporting system was being introduced in the Education Department.

He said the Supervisor Primary Education (SPE), Additional District Officer (ADO) Education, District Officer (DO) Education, Executive District Officer (EDO) Education will prepare monthly progress reports and submit it to the DCO to evaluate and examine the performances.

About enrolment, the DCO said under the Primary Education Plan, a survey was being conducted by the NCHD in 15 union councils, including 11 from rural and four from urban areas to collect data of children of up to nine years, and five to seven years, with the number of enrolment.

He said according to survey, enrolment figure in rural area was not satisfactory due to many reasons and added an integrated strategy was being adopted, especially to cover grey areas.
