KARACHI, March 20: Four ships carrying fertilizer, general cargo and chemicals are due to arrive at the outer anchorage on Thursday, according to KPT sources.
Berthing activity at the wharves was active where five ships, PONL Pemba, Wan Hai-232, Al-Mirqab, to offload and load containers, Bador to offload chemicals and Bow Favour to load molasses were berthed.
Six ships departed after loading export consignments including rice. They are: Conti Cortagemer, PONL Everest, Med Yai Chung, Emden, Al-Gharrafah and YA Pi, while Bador, Wan Hai-232, CEC Neadow, PONL Pemba, Swat, Al-Mirqab and Khairpur are due to depart on Thursday.
Ship movements at the wharves were maintained on the higher side where a dozen ships were berthed and sailed out, the berth occupancy at the dry wharves and BOPs being at 58 and 33 per cent respectively.
Cargo handling activity at the wharves was slow owing to lesser calling by the oil tankers and as a result, the total tonnage fell to 36,072 tons comprising 13,695 tons of export cargo including 1,157 tons of rice and 2,926 tons of chrome ore and 22,377 tons of import cargo.
The following ships are due on Thursday: Ievole Shine, with chemicals, X-Press Dhaulagiri, with containers, Chara, with general cargo and Kavo Platanos, with fertilizer.
