PESHAWAR, Oct 2: Contrary to media reports, the opposition in the NWFP assembly had not filed any petition in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday to prevent the legislature’s dissolution, according to court officials.

PHC deputy registrar Abdur Rasheed told journalists that the MPAs did visit the high court, signed affidavits, but did not file any petition. Another court official said the petition was not filed even on Tuesday.

Leader of the Opposition in the assembly Shahzada Gastasap, PPP-S parliamentary leader Makhdoom Murid Kazim and PML-Q MPAs Nighat Orakzai and Saeed Khan had told the media on Monday that they had filed a writ petition for restraining the chief minister from advising the governor to dissolve the assembly.

They had even provided copies of the “petition” to journalists.

Their counsel Mian Mohibullah Kakakhel had confirmed this in a TV interviews, quoting articles of the Constitution under which the petition had been filed.

Mr Kakakhel did not turn up on Tuesday as the PHC Bar Association has banned his visit the high court for one week after suspending his membership.
