SHEIKHUPURA, Sept 29: The local Akbar Bazaar remained shut for an hour or so when shopkeepers closed their shops to protest the torture of their colleague allegedly at the hands of a few students on Saturday. They also blocked Lahore Road, suspending the traffic for hours.
A student had purchased a book from Waqar Bookstall a few days ago. He along with few others came to return the book because, according to him, the shopkeeper had charged a higher price.
The shopkeeper refused to take back the book, which infuriated students and they stormed the shop, ransacked it and thrashed the shopkeeper.
The B division police was contacted immediately but students had fled before the police arrival.
On police assurance that culprits would be netted shortly, shopkeepers ended the road blockade and returned to their shops.
ABDUCTIONS: Three girls were allegedly abducted from different localities on Saturday.
In the first incident, two men later identified as Abdul Rashid and Ijaz abducted Mamuna from old city area. Eyewitnesses said the kidnappers stormed the girl’s house when she was alone in her house. The B division police are investigating.
Liaqat and Abdul Sattar kidnapped Naziran Bibi fom Jhabran Mandi while two people Manzoor and Noor abducted a salesgirl, Perveen from Shahoo Ki Malain locality. The Saddar police started investigations.
ROBBERIES: Four unidentified robbers entered the house of Mohammad Nawaz, took the family on gunpoint and fled after collecting gold jewellery and valuables worth thousands of rupees.
In other incident, three armed men intercepted motorcyclist Nazir Ahmed and deprived him of his bike No LPH-6334.
The robbers also thrashed Nazir when he resisted. In the last incident, a couple and other pedestrians were deprived of cash and valuables by four unidentified robbers on Arianwala Road.
The police are investigating.
