LAHORE, Oct 21: Pakistan Awami Tehrik chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri on Sunday welcomed Taliban commanders’ negotiations with the Pakistan authorities for what he said a broad-based Afghan government.
In a statement, he said after the two-week war in Afghanistan it had been proved that the Afghan issue could not be resolved with the use of force and the demand of the world for its political resolution was based on ground realities.
Dr Qadri said America would have to change its policy towards Afghanistan in view of the pressure put on it by China and Russia during the Shanghai APEC conference. Therefore, the establishment of a broad-based government in Afghanistan had become inevitable.
He said America showed a haste in attacking Afghanistan and this it did before the meeting of the OIC. Therefore, all the peace-loving nations did not like its step. The policy formed recently by the OIC and the APEC would help establish peace in the world, he said.
Dr Qadri urged the government to realize the sensitivity of the situation and play a central role in the formulation of a broad-based Afghan government of moderate Taliban and all other related groups so that extremism could be avoided.
He said peace in Pakistan was linked to Afghanistan. At present, the war in Kabul had discouraged investment in Pakistan and problems were being created for Pakistanis and all Muslims in foreign countries.
