FAISALABAD, Sept 28: Nine people were killed and five others were injured in two road accidents in Buchiana and Jhang Bazaar Road here on Friday.
In the first crash, six people, including five women, were killed and five injured in a head-on collision between a van and a trailer near Buchiana on Jaranwala-Buchiana Road.
The van carrying a family from Nankana Sahib to Chiniot collided with the trailer coming from the opposite side, killing Kaneez Bibi, Rasoolan Bibi, Roshan Bibi, Azra Bibi and her daughter, Bushra, and 12-year-old Shahid on the spot. Five people were hospitalised. Two of them are in a critical condition. The Buchiana police impounded the trailer, however, the driver fled.
Separately, three people were killed when a trailer laden with fabric overturned on Jhang Bazaar Road on late Thursday night.
The trailer was bringing fabric for cloth merchant Bashir Ahmed from Karachi. It turned turtle due to poor road condition near Jhang Bazaar police station, killing three unknown passers-by. The driver of the trailer, however, fled. Bodies were sent for autopsy and identification and the police started investigations.
INJURED: A ‘mysterious’ explosion left a child injured here on Friday.
Reports said Amjad Ali suffered burns when something exploded at his place in Factory Area police station precinct. He was taken to hospital where his condition was said to be out of danger. A police spokesman claimed that the boy was injured by a cracker.
