KARACHI, Sept 28: The additional district and sessions judge-5, South, Shamim A. Sadozai, on Friday awarded rigorous imprisonment of four years to Mohammad Ramzan, son of Mohammad Hanif, convicted of injuring two persons during a robbery attempt in the limits of Baghdadi police station on April 9, 2002.
According to the prosecution, the convict broke into the house of Abdur Rasheed, son of Haji Ibrahim. He had been arrested after an encounter with the police. Abdur Rasheed and his son Raheel also got injured on the occasion.
The police had registered an FIR No 92/02 under Sections 397, 394/34 of the the Pakistan Penal Code.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs20,000 and in case of non-payment, Ramzan would have to undergo an additional one month imprisonment. One of the co-accused, Mohammad Aamir, is still at large.
Bail pleas rejected
The District and Sessions Judge, Malir, Azam Anwer Baloch, has rejected the bail applications of Syed Hamid Hussein, project manager, Railway Constructions Pakistan Ltd (Railcop), and other accused in the death case of a youth Zulfiqar Ali Butt, son of Mohammad Yousuf Butt, who had died after his motorcycle ran into an iron pipe on National Highway on March 2, 2007.
According to the prosecution, the father of the deceased had filed a petition in the court of additional district and sessions judge-3, Malir, on April 1, 2007 stating that his son Zulfiqar Ali Butt was riding his motorcycle (KBW-6854) when he bumped into an iron pipe at night and fell down into a deep ditch near the under construction flyover of Quaidabad.
The complainant said that the incident occurred due to the negligence of the construction company of the flyover that had failed to make proper lighting arrangements.
The case (FIR No 97/07) had been registered at the Shah Latif police station under Sections 319 and 322/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code against Railcop project manager Syed Hamid Hussein, site engineer Bilal Ahmed, site supervisor Aftab Ahmed and Railcop project director Syed Mateen Zaidi.
Following the registration of the case the accused had sought bail before arrest from the court. The additional district and sessions judge-1, Malir, Khwaja Nizar Ahmed, had granted bail before arrest against surety bonds of Rs100,000 to each of them. The court after hearing arguments from the district attorney, counsel for the accused and complainant dismissed the bail applications of the accused.
