‘Commerce gaining popularity’

Speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony, Anwar Ahmed Zai, chairman of the BIEK, said that commerce faculty had been gaining popularity among the students at the intermediate level with the passage of time. He said as many as 32,000 candidates appeared in this year’s HSC (Commerce) annual examination 2007 while the number of candidates had been 29,000 last year.

He said while the number of candidates at the intermediate level had been on the rise, a decrease had been witnessed in the number of students of pre-medical and pre-engineering groups.

Mr Zai said that the overall result remained six per cent less than that had been recorded the previous year despite addition of two per cent grace marks as ordered by the Sindh governor (the controlling authority), which showed a decrease in the use of unfair means during examinations.

He said that the BIEK would opt for objective format of examinations from the next year and no candidate with less than 75 per cent attendance would be allowed to take the exams.

Besides, Mr Zai said, action would also be taken against those institutions next year the performance of which remained less than ten per cent.
