Six bombs found in Mumbai

MUMBAI, Sept 26: Police found six unexploded bombs in a Mumbai suburb on Wednesday as thousands celebrated on the streets the return home of India’s cricket team after winning the Twenty20 world title.

“These were live, country-made bombs ... but not of high intensity,” a crime branch official said, asking not to be named.

“One person has been arrested in connection with this,” he added.

Police did not directly link the bombs to the celebrations, but the city was on high alert.

Huge crowds turned out to welcome the team along a 30-kilometre route south from the airport to the Wankhede cricket stadium.

The crude bombs were found in the Andheri suburb well north of the airport and off the celebration route.—AFP
