MIRAMSHAH, Sept 23: Militants attacked a military convoy and checkpoints in North Waziristan on Saturday night and Sunday, while security forces killed two insurgents in an encounter, officials said.

Sources said the military convoy heading from Bannu to Miramshah was targeted twice with roadside bombs on Sunday. The first bomb hit the convoy near Saidgai. Another roadside bomb exploded on the highway in Karam Kot area. The explosions did not cause any casualty and the convoy reached its base camp in Miramshah.

Militants attacked Zara Mila post near Mirali town on Saturday night. Sources said militants fired six rockets at the post. Security forces retaliated and two local militants were killed.

On Sunday evening, the Amin post near Miramshah was attacked. Security forces countered the attack with heavy fire, in which one militant was reported wounded.

Meanwhile, militants killed two tribesmen for supplying food to the security forces in Degan area.

Witnesses said militants had kidnapped Nek Daar from Degan on Saturday. He was warned against supplying food to the troops in the area but he ignored the threat. His beheaded body was found on Sunday.

A chit was found on the body warning that if anybody found violating the militants’ decisions would face the same treatment. The body was sent to Shawal area for burial.

Militants had warned locals not to supply food to the security forces in the region after they scrapped a peace deal with the government.

Another tribesman, Gul Naib, was shot dead in the same area on Sunday. Family sources said local militants had asked him to persuade his uncle to stop supplying food to the troops.

“Soldiers are Muslims too, I can’t stop my uncle from supplying food to them,” Mr Naib was quoted as having said. The sources said that as the tribesman refused to obey the order, gunmen opened fire on him, killing him on the spot.
