PESHAWAR, Sept 23: Islamic scholars in the country are facing threats of target killing, like the assassination of noted theologian Maulana Hassan Jan.

Maulana Syed Abdul Majeed Nadim Shah, president of the Anjuman Tahafuz-i-Huqooq Ahla Sunna Aljamat, said this during a condolence reference held at Auqaf Hall here on Sunday to pay tribute to Maulana Hassan Jan, scholar who was killed last week.

Terming the death of Maulana Hassan an irreparable loss, Maulana Abdul Majeed said that even in a non-Muslim country like India, Islamic scholars were safe. He said the crisis-like situation in the country was because of interference of the United States in Pakistan’s internal affairs.

Senator Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan of JUI said the government was making efforts to nab the killers of the Maulana.

He appreciated the role of the police department in this regard and said that an investigation into the Maulana’s assassination was in progress.

He said Maulana Hassan’s loss had left a wide vacuum that could not be filled immediately.
