KARACHI, Sept 22: Two more victims of toxic bootleg liquor died in the early hours of Saturday, taking the total death toll to 41.

The deputy director of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre’s accident and emergency department, Dr Seemin Jamali, said three more affected people were admitted to the hospital overnight.

“Five patients are still admitted in Ward V,” she added.Police Surgeon Dr Bashir Shaikh told Dawn that no sick person had died since Saturday morning. “We still have 10 victims admitted at the JPMC and the Civil Hospital Karachi,” he added.

DIG South Javed Ali Shah Bukhari confirmed that the toxic liquor had so far claimed 41 lives.

He said those arrested on Friday included two manufacturers of the toxic liquor and a supplier. He said the suspects were remanded in police custody and they were being interrogated.
